Slip resistance testing measures the frictional characteristics of pedestrian surfaces under specified test conditions. Prime Safety provides on-site wet pendulum and dry floor friction testing for existing pedestrian surfaces in accordance with AS 4663:2013. The resulting report documents the test locations, methods, conditions, measured results and applicable classifications to support safety, maintenance and risk-management decisions.
Wet pendulum testing assesses slip resistance under specified wet conditions. Dry floor friction testing using the Tortus 3 assesses a surface under specified dry conditions. Because the methods assess different conditions and produce different results, one method does not automatically replace the other. We can help determine whether wet, dry or combined testing is appropriate for your site.
AS 4663:2013 applies to the on-site measurement of existing pedestrian surfaces. AS 4586 relates primarily to the classification of new pedestrian surface materials. Prime Safety's field testing service focuses on existing in-service surfaces under AS 4663:2013.
P0 to P5 are wet pendulum slip-resistance classifications, with a higher classification generally indicating greater slip resistance under the specified wet test conditions. The classification considered appropriate depends on the location, intended use and applicable guidance. Dry floor friction testing uses a different measurement and classification method and should not be described as a P-classification.
Subject to method and site suitability, Prime Safety can test many hard pedestrian surfaces, including tiles, concrete, stone, timber, vinyl, ramps, stairs, entrances, walkways, wet areas and selected external surfaces. We confirm the appropriate wet, dry or combined testing method after reviewing the surface, location and intended use.
AS 4663:2013 does not prescribe one fixed retesting interval for every site. Retesting should be determined through the property's risk-management process, considering pedestrian traffic, surface wear, contamination, cleaning practices, previous results and the consequences of a slip. Testing should also be considered after a surface treatment, coating, replacement, major cleaning change, significant deterioration or slip incident.
The report identifies the site and test locations, surface descriptions, test method and conditions, equipment used, measured results, applicable classifications, photographs and relevant observations. Where included in the agreed scope, it may also provide practical risk-management or next-step recommendations.
The result and relevant observations are clearly documented. Appropriate next steps depend on the location, use, condition and risk associated with the surface. These may include reviewing cleaning and maintenance practices, conducting a risk assessment, obtaining specialist rectification advice and arranging retesting after any corrective work. Prime Safety remains independent and does not sell or apply anti-slip treatments.
Prime Safety is an independent testing provider and is not itself a NATA-accredited laboratory. Our wet and dry slip-testing equipment is calibrated by ISTS, a NATA-accredited laboratory. Calibration certificates are maintained for the applicable equipment.
In many cases, yes. We coordinate access with the site representative and work to minimise disruption. Temporary control of the immediate test area may be required while equipment is being set up and testing is performed. Early-morning, after-hours or staged testing can be discussed when preparing the quotation.

Ensure the areas to be tested are accessible and reasonably clean. Let us know if surfaces have recently been polished, treated or modified. We will confirm any specific access requirements before the visit.
Electrical Testing & Tagging is the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment in accordance with AS/NZS 3760:2022, performed by a trained competent person with the knowledge, skills and training required to use the testing equipment safely and correctly. Electrical repair work is referred to an appropriately licensed electrical worker.
Timing depends on the number and type of appliances and the agreed site scope. Once we know the approximate number of items, we can provide a practical time estimate and plan the work to minimise disruption.
Equipment that fails the inspection or applicable electrical tests is identified and tagged ‘FAILED — DO NOT USE,’ isolated from use where practicable and reported to the site representative. The failed item and reason for failure are recorded. Electrical repair work must be completed by an appropriately licensed electrical worker, where required, and the equipment must not be returned to service until it is safe and has successfully completed the applicable inspection and testing.
